THE RED DOT

In 2014, all around Mount Lebanon, a curfew has been imposed on male Syrian workers, which bans them from the streets after dark. The film examines the mechanisms that lead to such measures. By exploring a variety of characters ranging from local residents, migrant workers to vigilante guys imposing the curfew by themselves, it dives into the atmosphere that leads to the violence of such invisible procedures..

meet the director

Walid Abdelnour (born 1980) is a Lebanese filmmaker and video maker with a Masters in cinema studies from the Sorbonne, Paris. He’s worked for Mediadante (Qatar) and more recently for Mada Masr, creating and training members on visual production. He’s co-directed one short film with Camille Brunel in 2017 and a videodance with Maysan Charafeddine in 2019.

Caroline Hatem is a theatre director, producer, dancer and actor, co-founder of YAZAN, a platform for artists and art practitioners. She’s directed and produced four theatre works in Beirut and is currently in post-production of Walid Abdelnour’s first long documentary,The Red Dot.
