Janitou

Algeria mid-1980s. The country enters a time of intense political and social unrest. During the same time a Bollywood film became an unexpected sensation throughout the country. Following the nostalgia of this Bollywood love story, Janitou discovers what love means in today’s Algerian society, giving a truthful tribute to cinema and unraveling the emotional identity of a traumatized generation.

meet the director

Amine Hattou is an Algerian independent filmmaker. He graduated from the Journalism Institute of Algiers in 2000. In 2009 he was selected to participate in the Documentary Summer University of “La Fémis” (Paris), where he wrote and directed his first short documentary. In 2011 he directed a short fiction film «Down to Earth» selected in more than 20 film festivals all over the world.

Boualem Ziani started his career as a journalist in the Algerian Television. In 2003, he founded Sora Production, and produced several documentaries and short fiction such as “Cousins” by Lyes Salem (César of best short film in 2005). He is currently the manager of “Libre Image production”.
