Door of the East, HARAM

The Tunisian Ayah Ban-Ali, the Iraqi Israa Essam and the Syrian Rose Yousef are three Arab women who escaped on their own from their respective countries, in a search to fulfill their dreams of self-determination away from fear, religious control and war. Were they able to achieve their goals after settling down in France, their alternative home, after being rejected from their own conservative countries of origin?

meet the director

Medoo Ali was born in Baghdad in 1991. He studied cinema at the Fine Arts Institute in Iraq. He is currently residing in Lyon, France. He has written and directed three short films: “Children of War”,”Nesma’s Birds” and “Taste of Life”. Medoo’s films have participated in more than 50 festivals around the world. He has been awarded at Tribeca Film Festival in 2014. Medoo is currently directing and editing his first feature documentary film.
