AFLAMUNA Independent Resources Initiative aims to reinvigorate the ecosystem of independent Arab film. More about the project.
Models that completely reimagine how we train, produce, distribute, and archive.
Projects that are entirely new and unprecedented or take their inspiration from once promising practices that have fallen out of use. From self-organizing to commoning resources to forging new pathways to audiences, we are open to all ideas that question the current distribution systems of resources, power, and access.
Deadline for submissions extended: 30/04/2024
Our selection process will be guided by the gaps we are identifying in the ecosystem at large.
What is the Independent Film Ecosystem?
There are many definitions of the term ecosystem. For us, the Independent Film Ecosystem is the ensemble of actors, from filmmakers to production houses to nonprofit support initiatives to funders to audiences, that affect and are affected by the independent filmmaking process in our region and the interdependencies and links between those different actors.
What kind of support will be provided?
Each selected project will receive a development grant between 2,000 and 4,000 EUR and will be accompanied by experts through the development process and towards realizing a full proposal and financial plan. All project representatives will also be brought together in an online lab to share their ideas and benefit from peer-to-peer learning and feedback.
Can I apply with a film project?
This is not a film production grant. However, initiatives that aim to produce films in an innovative or unconventional way are welcome to apply. The grant cannot be spent on film production directly but on research, training, or any initiative that reimagines film production.
The application will require a detailed description of your initiative and its role within the independent film ecosystem. Individuals will be required to share their CVs, and collectives and/or organizations will be asked to submit their institutional profiles.
The application will also ask you to select the area within the film ecosystem the initiative tackles:
Any individual, collective, or emerging organization wanting to develop an innovative project for the independent Arab film industry.
Submissions Close On April 30, 2024.
