The climate crisis is arguably one of – if not the – most urgent and threatening issues for the future of our societies. Unfortunately, it has taken a backseat to the confluence of crises facing our region, and our communities’ perspectives and lived realities have been largely absent from the global debate.
To imagine together how Arab Independent Cinema can contribute to shifting this narrative, we are organizing a series of local gatherings in different Arab countries. Independent filmmakers will come together with environmental activists, organizations, and community leaders to listen to each other’s perspectives and needs and collectively brainstorm alliances and partnerships that can harness the power of film to change hearts, minds, and policies around environmental and climate issues in the Arab region.
The first “Storytelling for Climate” gathering will take place over the course of a full day in Amman, Jordan, as part of the Industry Days of the Amman International Film Festival (20th to 27th July 2022).
We are looking for environmental film projects from Jordan to take part in this one-day event. Selected filmmakers will have the chance to pitch their films to activists, subject-matter experts, and potential allies for the realization of their projects. They will get to imagine how to take their films’ Impact to another level.
