Masahat AFLAMUNA Open Call for
Community Cinema Spaces in Syria
Deadline: 14/06/2026
In its third year, Masahat AFLAMUNA continues its efforts to reach local communities across the Arab region and to make independent Arab films accessible to all audiences. Over this period, the project has successfully built a network of over 150 Arab community cinema spaces and facilitated approximately 500 screenings of independent Arab films for diverse Arab audiences.
Stemming from our belief that cinema is a right for all, and that films play a constructive role in positive social impact, we are launching the second edition of Masahat AFLAMUNA :: Syria, in partnership with Ettijahat – Independent Culture, to support community cinema spaces and bring independent Arab films that reflect our realities and represent our communities to the screen.
This open call is directed at community cinema spaces in Syria, as an opportunity for training in programming and organizing screenings, funding to develop cinema spaces, and access to Arab films through the open Masahat AFLAMUNA library.
About Masahat AFLAMUNA:
Masahat AFLAMUNA is a pan-Arab network of community cinema spaces (non-commercial screening spaces), a new model that achieves independence, inclusivity, and decentralization in film distribution, and reclaims Arab cinema for Arab audiences.
Masahat AFLAMUNA aims to activate spaces of all kinds across the Arab region, transforming them into vibrant, inclusive, and accessible community cinemas. Through training, funding, and mapping of screening spaces across the region, the initiative empowers cultural organizers to bring independent cinema and culture back to their communities. The project also provides independent filmmakers with an infrastructure to self-distribute their films and reach new audiences as easily as possible. Simply put, we seek to encourage and support film clubs across the Arab region to become more organized and equipped, and to connect them with independent Arab filmmakers.
