AFLAMUNA Impact Fundّ :: 2024

Submissions are now open for the AFLAMUNA Impact Fund, the first of its kind in the Arab region.

This pioneering Fund is dedicated to supporting Impact Campaigns centered around groundbreaking Arab films that tackle the most pressing social, political, and environmental issues of our time, ensuring they reach their rightful audience and spark meaningful change.

Launched in 2022, the fund has already supported 12 films and their impact campaigns, making waves across the region.

Our societies have endured significant turmoil and transformation, particularly in the past decade and especially this last year. We believe that film, with its unique ability to tell compelling stories and inspire action, can hold the power to drive this change. Join us in harnessing the power of storytelling to make a difference.

Deadline for submissions: 31/07/2024
5 p.m. Beirut time

What is an Impact Campaign?

An Impact Campaign is an action plan a film team puts in place to ensure that their film spurs change on an issue – where they are deliberate about who needs to see a film, what audiences need to do, and what partnerships, tools, and resources are needed to reach the desired goals of the campaign.

This covers a wide range of activities, from getting your film in front of decision-makers who can influence private and public policy to developing plans with NGO partners so they can use it to mobilize supporters and reach new communities or to developing a curriculum guide to help educators use it in the classroom. These are only a few examples, among many others.

This work can be short-term — just a few months — or turn into a year-long or multi-year-long campaign. An Impact Campaign’s goals can be dialogue-based or outcome-driven, ambitious or narrowly focused, subtle or backed by metrics, local, national, regional, or even international in scope. In our part of the world, where funding and distribution opportunities are limited, Impact Campaigns can unlock vital resources for films that would otherwise be limited to festivals and foreign distribution.

You can learn more by browsing through the Impact Field Guide.

What does the Impact Fund support?

The AFLAMUNA Impact Fund can support any activities related to that campaign, including fees/salaries for the Impact Producer and/or the team working on the campaign. The idea is to provide seed funding for the campaign launch to enable the film teams to mobilize further partnerships and funding. The fund cannot support the film’s production or post-production costs or classical distribution activities.

Each selected project will receive a grant between 5,000 and 15,000 USD, in addition to mentorship and support from AFLAMUNA’S team.

How will we select the grantees?

Projects will be evaluated and selected based on the following criteria:
● The campaigns’ potential for Impact, and current relevance of the topic, and the Impact Goals.
● The strength of the film and its potential to connect with audiences.
● The relevance of the activities per the impact goals and the feasibility of the proposed plan.
● The diversity of topics and countries represented in the final selection.

Priority will be given to campaigns:
● Based on documentary films.
● Based on a film in post-production or that has time-sensitive Impact Goals.
● In early stages with limited access to resources.

Application requirements and conditions

The application will require clear Impact Goals, an Impact Strategy with an activity plan and schedule, as well as a detailed budget, among other questions.
If you have any doubts about your project’s eligibility or the application requirements, including how to formulate your Impact Goals, Impact Strategy, etc., or about Impact Campaigns in general, don’t hesitate to contact us at programs@aflamuna.org We understand this model is still new to the region, and are ready to help out in any way we can.
